The next orchestra we suggest adding to your music collection is that of Angel D’Agostino and his singer Angel Vargas, often referred to as The Two Angels. Their partnership continued from 1940 until 1946 and they made more recordings during this time than most of their contemporaries. Most of their music is very danceable and remains popular today. Michael Lavocah says, “The combination D'Agostino / Vargas stands with Troilo / Fiorentino as one of the greatest of the 1940s.”

The CDs in the Tangos De Los Angeles series, Volumes 1 through 4 are all good to have, although they are not always readily available. Currently, limited supplies of Volumes 1, 2 and 3 are available.

Solo Compasion (1941) is one of the most popular songs the pair recorded, but is only available as a digital track today. Unless you are able to find a CD of Volume 4 you will also be missing the tune Cafe Dominguez (1955) and I recommend listening to or getting a digital copy of it. This is one of those tunes with an interesting backstory. Julian Centeya voices the glosa or spoken introduction.

The four CD albums listed above do not seem to be available in digital format from the following sites. However most of the tunes can be found individually from various compilations, with varying quality, depending on the source album.

This web site has a over 100 tunes by Angel D’Agostino with Angel Vargas. They offer an album Ángel 1 containing most of their hits. These are quality transfers and can be individually purchased. Titles include nearly all of those listed above.

This site has many of the tunes cited above, although they are scattered amongst several albums. One of the better albums is from El Bandoneon: Angel D' Agostino y Su Orquesta Típica 1940-1945 and another is from Magenta Records: D Agostino Vargas – Tango Popular.

Magenta Records: D Agostino Vargas – Tango Popular is available on iTunes, and there is also from Thai Records: El Tango de Los Ángeles, Orquesta de Angel D’Agostino. You can find most of their tunes on these two albums.
The album Me Llama Tango, a compilation of various orchestras provides about the only available source today to purchase the tune Cafe Dominguez.
The excellent CD album from the French company Le Chant du Monde, titled The Masters of Tango: Ángel D'Agostino - Café Domínguez, which is no longer available as a CD is available for listening under Apple Music, but I could not find it for purchase in iTunes.
