Francisco Lomuto - Virtual Class 7/12/20 by Makela

Francisco Lomuto (1893-1950)

Pseudonim: Pancho Laguna

Pianist, director and composer.

Place of birth: Buenos Aires Argentina

I love dancing to the orchestra of Francisco Lomuto. They played very danceable songs, with a strong rhythm structure and catchy melody structure. He was influenced by his friend Francisco Canaro, who helped him out at the beginning of his career. He was also a very close friend of Carlos Gardel. Some of Lomuto’s best-known compositions are: La revoltosa, Fumando Espero, Muchachita del campo, Muñequita, Si soy así and Cachadora. I love in particular his endings with the diminished seventh (not in vals or milonga).

Lomuto was born in the Parque Patricios neighborhood, one of 10 children raised by the Italians Víctor Lomuto and Rosalia Narducci. His mother, Rosalia, taught him piano, and by 1922, he had his own orchestra with whom he recorded over 950 numbers between 1922 and 1950.

Lomuto became involved in several Argentine films such as El Alma de bandoneón, La rubia del camino and Melgarejo.

In 1936, Lomuto was appointed as the president of organization for the Sociedad Argentina de Autores y Compositores de Música (SADAIC) (Argentine Society of Music Authors and Composers).

The singers of Francisco Lomuto’s orchestra are Charlo, Príncipe Azul, Jorge Torres, Jorge Omar, Fernando Díaz, Alberto Rivera, Carlos Galarce, Eduardo Inda, Miguel Montero.
