Tertulia #9 - Conversations with Makela - The Tango Warm Up (3)

The Tango Warm Up (3)

Once you arrive at the studio make sure you cover 5 elements on your own. We cover #2 here, check other blogs to learn about the other four.

2 of 5) Connect with the physical space

You entered to the beautiful space that we created exclusively and specifically for dancing Tango.

  1. Feel the sprung floor. Feel how the foam underneath the wood, supports your knees. Feel the texture of that birch wood that generously support your feet and body. Feel the slipperiness of the floor and be aware of its even surface.

  2. Be aware of the light. Close and open your eyes slowly, and get acquainted to the soft colored lights. Look at the chandeliers that bring the memory of  Buenos Aires cafes. See the light reflected on the wall, on the mirror, on the black chairs. Watch the light on your skin, on your clothes.

  3. Now, pay attention to the smells. There is the clean smell, then the smell of clean bodies, the smell of soap and mouth wash.

  4. There is the thickness of the air. You just came from driving your car (or in a bus), in a confined space, and now you are ready to move in this ample space. There is a space that is available for you to move. You need to own it, but first you just need to be aware of it.

Stay tuned for the next blog where we will cover the next 3 elements of the Warm Up where you  prepare your body, mind, emotions and soul to the beautiful tango dance. After that, we will cover the other six that are the actual warm up.
