URBAN TANGO Reviewed
By Alexandra Caluen

"Urban Tango" was created by and for the students of Venice tango instructor Makela Brizuela, who is to be commended for this ambitious production. It is a story, told almost entirely in dance, of the woman's experience of connection, rejection, rediscovery, possibilities, and joy.

Featuring a cast of nineteen male and female students as well as a noteworthy duet by Ms. Brizuela and special guest Jorge Visconti, this show was an excellent introduction to Argentine tango. It is clear that Ms. Brizuela has a gift for communicating the emotions underlying the urge to dance.

The full subtitle of the show is "The Agony and Ecstasy of Amateur Tango: In Search of the Elusive Embrace." All dancers can certainly relate. It is to be hoped that this will not be the last such production from this talented group.
